frequently asked questions
these are my personal FAQs, for my client FAQs please take a look here.
WHY BLESS THE WEATHER?
To me, blessing the weather means to embrace all seasons of your life and work, to be grateful for what you have and where you are no matter if the sun is shining or if it's pouring down with rain. There are lessons, beauty and a joyful life to be found throughout it all. It's also the title of one of my favourite songs by John Martyn. "Bless the weather that brought you to me, curse the storm that takes you away'.
WHAT CAMERA EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I keep it pretty simple and shoot with my Canon 5d Mark iv, a backup Canon 5d mark ii and my Canon 35mm 1.4L and Canon 50mm 1.2L lens. No flash, always natural light. I also own a Canon 85mm 1.4L and a Canon 24-70mm 2.8 lens which I use very rarely. Simple for me works the best.
HOW DO YOU EDIT YOUR IMAGES?
I edit everything in Lightroom with VSCO presets (currently film pack 01 or 05) and Tribe Photo Co. Wolfpack presets. I tweak them a lot to make my own presets, dialling down the grain, highlights, contrast, and also play a little with the tones. I like my greens dark and deep, and my images to look classic and timeless but with a little nod to the analogue era I love so much. My editing style is constantly evolving, and changes a little every time I edit an image.
WHO TAKES THE PHOTOS OF YOU?
My Instagram Husband, of course. Gav is very patient with me, often standing in for me while I get the camera settings right so he can shoot. It's still a bit trial and error, but he let's me direct him in the way I like to shoot and he pays attention to all my slightly bossy photography lessons.
CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME TIPS ON IMPROVING MY PHOTOGRAPHY?
The short answer is yes, I can! I offer photo walks and workshops - you can find out more about all of those in my online shop. I'm also working on some educational blog posts and free downloads to help you improve your photography, so if there's something specific you'd like to know you can shoot me and email and request it. I'm always happy to answer quick questions over Instagram and Twitter too.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VEGAN?
I've been vegan since 2005, so for the last thirteen years. I was vegetarian for a few years before that, and spent a few years vegetarian in my early teens. I am very happy to say I have now spent more years of my life as a vegetarian/vegan than as a meat eater. You can read more about my reasons for being vegan, and my personal philosophy of food in this post.
CAN YOU RECOMMEND SOME PLACES TO GO IN LONDON?
Honestly, I'm not a very adventurous Londoner any more. We are moving out of the city soon, and I can't wait to be inspired by somewhere new. I spend most of my time around South East London where I live, using the local shops, cafes and markets. You're more likely to find me walking in my local park than anywhere else!
